22 New Researchers to Turku Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Turku

Half of the new researchers of TIAS will begin their three-year positions at the beginning of 2019, and the rest a year later. Following the new recruitments, there will be 38 researchers at different phases of their careers working at TIAS.

– Selected by the TIAS Board on the basis of external evaluations, TIAS researchers are working at the top of their own disciplines. The high quality of the applicant's research plan and their international activities were particularly highlighted during the selection. The recruitment is a significant milestone in the history of the ten-year old research collegium, says Director of TIAS Martin Cloonan.

With the new recruitments, there will be researchers arriving to Turku from Great Britain, Sweden, Poland, Italy, and Belgium alongside Finland.

– Committed to innovative and groundbreaking interdisciplinary projects, our researchers work in their own units, but meet each other regularly at TIAS meetings and events. I am delighted to welcome the new researchers to the international TIAS community, an exciting interdisciplinary intellectual climate, says Cloonan.

TIAS supports the research profile of the University of Turku, which consist of six thematic collaborations: biofuture, digital futures, cultural memory and social change, children, young people and learning, drug development and diagnostics, and sea and maritime studies.
