Areas of Strength in Research at the University of Turku

The University of Turku acknowledges six areas of strength in research. The definition of these areas is based on the University's strategic goals, cooperation possibilities, future outlook, and the needs of society. The status of the current areas of strength has been established through the traditions of the faculties and groundbreaking research projects.

The profiling of the University through its areas of strength is evident in, for example, the expertise and success of the Centres of Excellence in Research.

Areas of Strength in Research:

  • Molecular biosciences
  • Cardiovascular and metabolic research
  • Ecological interactions and ecological genetics research
  • Learning and education research
  • Future studies
  • Research on institutional design and social mechanisms.

The University of Turku is constantly looking for and supporting fields of research currently in a promising state of development. In the future, highly interdisciplinary research aiming at social innovations will have a more prominent role than before, as the importance of values and well-being is emphasised in the changes in society.
