Researcher mobility
The University of Turku is a part of international academia operating in a global environment. Internationalisation is realised through scientific projects and conferences, student and teacher exchange, institutional agreements and networks. The University of Turku especially encourages creating contacts in research and postgraduate training cooperation with foreign higher education institutions and research units.
The links on this page will direct you to various funding bodies for international cooperation. In addition to research funding and research mobility grants, the Academy of Finland has contracts with corresponding units in different countries. There are grants available through the Centre for International Mobility (CIMO) for postgraduate and research mobility.
NordForsk is primarily responsible for Nordic research funding. In addition to the the Nordic Countries, many NordForsk activities are carried out in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and North-Western Russia.
Funding through the Marie Curie programme is available via the European Union 7th Framework Programme for the training of researchers, for individual researcher grants, for cooperation between a company and a university, and for research mobility outside of Europe.
There are also quite a few grant programs through the Fulbright Center for researcher, lecturer or specialist mobility between the United States and Finland. University of Turku and the Fulbright Center offer together special opportunities for American scholars and advanced students to visit Turku: The Fulbright -University of Turku Scholar Award is for research and/or teaching for 3-12 months, and the Fulbright - University of Turku Graduate Award is aimed at Americans who study or carry out research at master's or doctoral level at the University of Turku for one academic year.
Information about international education and research contacts for the University of Turku staff is collected every year and used in the evaluation given by the Ministry of Education. A part of the statistical information is also submitted to Kota, the Ministry of Education database of Finnish university activity.
