Timeless Experience

The theories of time consciousness aim to account for our experiences of temporally extended phenomena such as change, succession and movement. This is usually thought to require subscribing to the doctrine of the specious present, according to which what we experience at one moment is a temporally extended interval. This project reassesses the need for subscribing to the doctrine. While the philosophical theories of time consciousness form the point of departure for the research, the project draws on and relates to a wider philosophical and empirical context of consciousness studies and time perception studies.
