How to apply

You can apply to the doctoral programme twice a year. The application periods for the academic year 2017-2018 are

  • from 1 September to 20 September 2017.
  •  from 1 March 1 to 20 March 2018. 

 You can apply

  • a  right to pursue the Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Turku (both application periods)
  • a salaried position as a Doctoral Candidate (fix-term) (only the autumn application period)

Important information for international applicants:

  • Applicants from outside the University of Turku must supply a copy of the degree certificate (diploma) and also a copy of the previous degree certificate, along with a copy of the transcript of records or other qualifications. These copies  must be officially certified (legalised) and if they are not in English, a legalised English traslation is needed.
  • There are required knowledge of languages. Please visit


Before considering applying for the doctoral programme of languages and translation studies, Utuling, please notice that languages that we cover are  
    Finnish / Finno-Ugric Languages
    Scandinavian Languages

In Translation studies you should have a language pair that fit our profile (both of your languages should be included). 

We also have majors in Latin / Greek Philology (Classics) and Phonetics
