Building New Literacies
November 10—11, 2017, University of Turku,
School of Languages and Translation Studies
The ability to read and write is the basis of
literacy on which language users build their ability to act in different roles
and situations. Digital literacy, media literacy, information literacy,
advertising literacy, L2 literacy and multilingual literacy, for instance,
reflect the challenges the present-day global and digitized societies pose on
language users. As experts in applied linguistics, we are facing multiple
questions related to the definitions, outcomes and pedagogies of these new
literacies. We also welcome presentations from all areas of applied
linguistics.
The symposium consists of individual
presentations, thematic workshops, PechaKucha workshops, and poster sessions.
The symposium programme includes three plenary presentations by the keynote
speakers:
Daniel Perrin, Zurich University of
Applied Sciences
Applied linguistics in a globalizing world. The case of professional writing
and the digital literacy shift
Françoise Blin, University of Dublin
Digital literacies for language teaching and learning: from theory to practice
Heini-Marja Pakula, University of Turku
