Applicants and Accepted Students by Faculty

In spring 2016, the second highest number of applicants applied to the University of Turku in the joint application round to Finnish universities. Altogether 20,372 people applied to the University and 2,560 were granted the right to pursue a degree, i.e. under 13 percent of the applicants received a study place.

Collaboration with Other Universities Develops Education

In 2016, the University of Turku negotiated with the Ministry of Education and Culture about changing the educational responsibility of the University. The University was prepared to give up the educational responsibility in Russian and the Ministry accepted the suggestion in January 2017.

A Master of Science degree education in the field of mechanical engineering began in the autumn 2016 as a joint venture of the University of Turku, Tampere University of Technology, Åbo Akademi University, Turku University of Applied Sciences and Satakunta University of Applied Sciences. In addition, the University increased its collaboration with Åbo Akademi University particularly in natural sciences and technology. Among other things, the goal of the Scientia Aboensis collaboration is to create joint Master's degree programmes in English to the disciplines in natural sciences.

The University decided to centralise all its mandatory, degree-related language studies to the Language Centre.

At the Rauma on Pori campuses, the University of Turku has increased its collaboration with the other higher education institutions that operate at the University Consortium of Pori. With the collaboration, the students can take courses from different subjects and fields of study. In addition, the collaboration covers international research and development activities.

The University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, Novia University of Applied Sciences, and Satakunta University of Applied Sciences decided to seek synergy benefits in student and academic affairs by implementing the Peppi study record and administration system.
