Applying - Biomedical Imaging

Who can apply?

The programme is open to applicants who have sufficient background knowledge in biological and/or natural sciences, and who have completed a lower university degree, BSc degree (180 ECTS), in the field of:
  • biomedical sciences
  • biology
  • biochemistry
  • medical sciences
  • other life sciences
  • physics
  • chemistry
  • engineering
The applicants should also be familiar with the basics of laboratory practice. Both Finnish and foreign students are welcome to apply for the programme.

How to apply?

Before applying make sure that you fulfil both the admission and the language requirements.

The online application form is available on the Finnish Studyinfo portal (  NB! The online application form is available only during the application period. Application period for the studies starting in Autumn 2018 is now closed. Next application period will begin in December 2018.

The application form is filled online in the Studyinfo portal. Please search at for the Master’s Degree Programme in Biomedical Sciences. The application form is available only during the application period.  When filling in the form you should select the specialisation track of the Master´s Degree Programme in Biomedical Sciences to which you will apply. If you wish to apply for several tracks, you’ll have to put them in the order of preference.​

How to increase the chances to get admission?

The MSc Degree studies in Biomedical Imaging are jointly administered by both the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Åbo Akademi University and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Turku. Students can apply to either University of Turku or Åbo Akademi University. 
In order to increase the chances of being admitted, applicants are advised to apply to both of the universities offering the programme. Note that in order to do so the applicants MUST complete two application forms and send in both applications and two sets of enclosures. This is due to the fact that the applications will be processed at both universities.
