Youngsters in focus

The Youngsters in focus –survey targets 5th, 7th, and 9th grade pupils every second year (i.e. age groups 11, 13 and 15 years old).

The survey results are utilized in workshop discussions between youth and municipality officials. The aim of the project is to develop action models, which give young people a voice and an opportunity to influence decision-makers as well to promote discussion and active youth participation. The piloting workshops were carried out in five municipals during spring 2013.

Empowering youngsters

In the fall of 2012, Youngsters in focus conducted a survey, in which a total of 7700 pupils in 6th and 9th grades participated. The respondents represented 42 municipals in the Southwest Finland and the region of Satakunta.

In Loimaa, Vehmaa, Kemiö, Turku and Salo municipalities, children and youth, as well as local municipality officers, were invited to the workshops to discuss, teach, and learn about various ways to influence decision making. The discussion was based on local survey results carried among the same youth population six months earlier.

Both the participating youngsters and adults gave very positive feedback on the piloting workshops.
