People make the university

The University of Turku is a community of some 3,000 people. As our personnel policy states the key concepts under constant elaboration include the well-being, job satisfaction, know-how and management of the staff.

Long-term personnel planning focuses on the work environment, which by us can be characterised by the stimulating atmosphere and constructive communication relationships with superiors. The vitally important job satisfaction consists of equality, opportunities for influencing decision-making and interaction and obviously students constitute an integral part of the university community.

The learning-driven climate of the University of Turku is our pervasive feature. In addition to the 1,500 researchers and teachers there is no underestimating the contribution brought about by the rest of the staff in terms of new knowledge on a continuous basis. The great variety of personnel-training services makes the acquisition of desirable skills available by pin-point precision.

Functional facilities greatly affect the well-being and job satisfaction. The on-going new construction and refurbishment of the campus area are designed to create an appropriate work environment for faculties, departments and research centres alike; and in line with our way the planning process is open to everyone in the University community.

The University has a constant need for new talented and motivated people. Focus on recruitment is vital in making sure we will get the right people to do this work. The University wishes to provide long-term employment relationships. We also want to care for the maintenance of physical and mental working capacity for the members of staff. As to the attractiveness of the University as a place of work, our defining strengths include opportunities for professional promotion, life-long learning and academic freedom.
