Erasmus Policy Statement 2007/2008-2013/2014

The EPS of the University of Turku is based on the principles outlined in the University Strategy and yearly operational and financial plans approved by our University Board. As a Research University our international, national and regional profile is based on high quality and multidisciplinarity. LLP activities are also based on connections between scientific research and education. We follow ethical, critical, creative and communal values. Societal and regional impact is a part of our mission and active commitment in the LLP also affects the region of South-West Finland where the University is located.

LLP supports our actions in ensuring an international dimension for all our students, academics and staff by enhancing cooperation in mobility, curriculum development and joint educational projects within basic (first and second cycle) and doctoral studies, Open University studies and supplementary education. Our aim is to create flexible study structures, well-defined student statuses and individual study paths regardless of social background, gender, age, race or other personal characteristics. We have a clear policy and process in selecting students for Erasmus exchanges and in documenting exchanges and credit transfer. We support the students' possibilities for multidisciplinary studies with flexible credit transfer. Promoting international teacher exchange strengthens the teaching community and allows the non-mobile students to become immersed in an international academic community.

The University of Turku participates in the development of academic education as a part of national and international networks such as the Coimbra Group and the Baltic Sea Region University Network (BSRUN), both of which actively support staff exchanges. We will further develop such mobility and will actively support academic and non-academic staff to take advantage of new opportunities, both through the existing networks and on a bilateral basis.

The University employs an Adviser of Disability Issues. The non-discrimination policy also applies to teachers, researches and other staff members. The development of new kinds of study modules, including virtual teaching and partnerships in multilateral educational projects and networks, is promoted. Our priorities in all operations are based on the pursuit of our essential goals and preference is given to activities most efficient in contributing to the pursuit of learning and the practice of higher education. All suitable LLP actions are highly promoted within the University through the appropriate information channels e.g. employee development and Study Abroad Advising Services for students.

The main responsibility for planning, implementing and evaluating the LLP cooperation projects lies in the academic units themselves while the University's administration offers the administrative and financial support services. Information produced by our quality system is also put to use in the evaluation processes.
