As one of the EU partners in the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 project CENTAURI, the University of Turku welcomes applicants from eleven Central Asian partner universities as well as Target Group 2 applicants from any of the four eligble countries in Central Asia.

Application Period
The application period is not currently open.
Special notes
1) The CENTAURI application is only for the CENTAURI grant. It does not guarantee a study right for degree studies at University of Turku (UTU). Both Master Degree and Doctorate students must submit a separate application for the right to study at the University of Turku. The deadlines for Master's degree programmes taught in English are in February - April 2011 depending on the programme and for doctoral studies the deadlines vary depending on the faculty. 2) Doctoral students in the current CENTAURI application round are mainly accepted to start their studies in the autumn semester 2011. The selection of grantees is made in May 2011 at earliest. In addition, formalities such as the visa application procedure will take approximately two months.
3) Staff visits, which are more flexible in timing, may also take place during the academic year 2012-2013.
4) All applicants to Turku must fill in the Language Assessment Sheet , further instructions are given in the form.
5) Ph D, staff and post doctoral applicants are requested to have a preliminary invitation from the hosting unit at the Unviersity of Turku.
Available fields and study periods at the University of Turku under the CENTAURI project
The mobility activities financed by CENTAURI are connected to specific fields which are of major interest and needs for the Central Asian Countries and Universities: xxxxxxxxx. The fields of study offered at the University of Turku for incoming CENTAURI grantees are listed in the Table below. Please, note that degree studies are available in English only in certain fields (x in Table below). Exchange studies are normally possible at all levels (U = undergraduate, M = master, D = doctoral).

Mobility periods
Undergraduate level exchange students for the autumn semester 2011 (4-5 months) or for the spring semester 2012 (5 months; latest arrival day is 31 December 2011!).
Master level students for the academic year 2011-2012 (5-10 months; latest arrival day is 31 December 2011!).
Doctorate level visitors for 22-33 months (latest arrival date is 31 December 2011!).
Post-doctorate level visitors for 10 months: time of the visit must be agreed with the host(ing institute).
Staff visits for one month: time of the visit must be agreed with the hosting institute or department.
Special information for students
Exchange student who has received the CENTAURI grant to Turku must also fill in the University of Turku electronic application form (see Application procedure for Exchange Students) by April 15, 2011. This electronic application form will be opened in March 2011.
For practical information e.g. on arrival and housing, please check the FAQ-website for Exchange Students website. Housing applications must be submitted directly through the Student Village Foundation website no less than six weeks prior to the date of the lease (further instructions see the link given above).
All CENTAURI students (undergaduate, master and doctorate) are expected to participate in the Orientation Course. The course takes place in the beginning of each semester. For further information please see the academic calendar.
Who can apply
Undergraduate studies
The CENTAURI grants at undegraduate level are only for students enrolled at CENTAURI partner universities. At the University of Turku, applicants who are fluent in Finnish or English are welcomed to apply for exchange studies. The applicants must have at least one or two years of prior studies at the home university when applying to any of the English-taught non-degree courses which must be taught in one of the Thematic fields of the CENTAURI project (please see Table above).
Master level studies
Applicants who are fluent in Finnish or English are welcome to apply for exchange studies on Master level. The applicant should have a Bachelor level degree or a corresponding amount of studies completed at the home university prior to the exchange period in order to enrol in the English-taught non-degree courses offered by the University of Turku.

Doctoral studies
Doctoral level exchange studies and studies leading to a doctoral degree (see Note 1 above) are available for CENTAURI applicants at the University of Turku. The starting date can be negotiated with the hosting department / research group. More information on doctoral level degree studies here.

Academic staff exchanges
(only for staff registered at CENTAURI partner universities)
The University of Turku also welcomes visiting staff members. In general, it is expected that you are proficient either in Finnish or English in order to carry out the exchange. It is strongly recommended that you are in touch with your host department or administrative unit already before applying via the online system.
The starting date for academic staff exchanges can be negotiated with the hosting department or unit.
