The International University of Turku/Åbo (IUTÅ)

The city of Turku has two separate universities which form an entity known as the International University of Turku/Åbo. Those two universities are the University of Turku and

IUTÅ is not an individual university but a consortium of the two universities in Turku to promote international exchange. It is an association which advocates study abroad and exchange possibilities. Both universities strive to attain the highest standards of academic education and reserch, each with their own unique features.

Interscholastic possibilities

Exchange students coming to the University of Turku,  must apply to this host institution and take at least 50 % of their studies at the University of Turku. If the student wishes to do so, he or she has the possibility to take also courses at the:

  • Åbo Akademi University:

    by email (instructions below) to the International Officer of the Faculty  and attach your scanned Transcript of Records. (If you can not scan your Transcript of Records yourself please ask the International Officer at your faculty to scan it for you.)

    Instructions
    A scanned copy of your transcript of records must be attached to this
    email. In order to check that you fulfill prerequisites Åbo Akademi needs
    your complete transcript. Your International Officer at the University
    of Turku will forward this e-mail with the scanned copy of your
    transcript to the International office at Åbo Akademi University.

    You will receive a message from your International Officer concerning the outcome of your application.

  • Please note that it takes approximately two weeks to get the student number from the joint university as well as the approval of courses. Each course will have their own instructions for registration, which you should familiarise yourself with when applying. 

Each university will give their registered students their own student number, which must be used for registering for courses and taking exams. Students who come to the University of Turku from the IUTÅ consortium may also receive university e-mail and user ID.

Degree students who wish to study at one of the other institutions in Turku must follow the instructions for JOO-studies.
