New study right for specialisation studies

There is no registration period for new students in specialisation studies because new study rights can be issued at any time during the academic year.

Registration as an attending student is done automatically at the Admission and Student Affairs.

  • Registration as an attending student is done automatically at the Admission and Student Affairs after the faculty has issued you the right to pursue the degree and you have accepted the study place (if needed).
    • In the coming years you are to register according to the instructions for Current specialisation studies (see below)
  • After registration you may join the Student Union.
    • The membership includes a fee and is optional for licentiate and doctoral candidates. Please contact the Student Centre to receive the needed documents for payment.s to receive the needed documents for payment.
  • After registration you will receive email from Student Centre.

Current students in specialisation studies

Registration period

Registration period for the Academic Year 2017-2018 begins 1 June 2017 and ends 31 august 2017.

  • This concerns all students registered with the University of Turku as attending or non-attending for the Spring semester 2017 and whose study right is still valid in 2017 Autumn.
  • Information on registration will be sent utu-email to these students in May.
  • Students who have not registered for Spirng Semester 2017 as attending or non-attending need to re-register with the University and need to pay €35 fee for re-registration

Registration period for the Spring Semester 2018 begins 1 December 2017 and ends 15 January 2018.

  • This concerns students who have first registered with the University only for autumn semester 2017 and who register separately for the spring semester. 
  • Students who register separately for spring semester 2018 and have not registered for Autumn semester 2017 with the University of Turku as an attending or non-attending student need to pay €35 fee for re-registration.

Registration with the University in Nettiopsu

Information on registration is available in Nettiopsu during the registration period

  • It is recommended to register as attending or non-attending online through Nettiopsu. 
  • It is possible to register also by contacting Student Centre by e-mail (registration [at] ) or by post.
  • The University of Turku does not offer registration services by phone.  

Student Union membership

Student Union membership is compulsory for undergraduate students and voluntary for PhD students. Other students are not eligible to join the Student Union (Universities Act 558/2009, 46§). Therefore students in specialisation studies are not allowed to join the Student Union.

Changes to personal information

Please infrorm changes in name or address to university. Changes in address, place of domicile can be done in Nettiopsu. For other changes please infrom the  Student Centre, registration [at]

NOTE Inform the Student Centre also if you possess a Finnish personal ID number or if you receive a Finnish nationality!
