Cost of living for international students
This page briefly explains the required living costs for those studying and applying for a temporary (status B) student residence permit or right to reside in Finland
If an EU/EAA citizen is studying at a university in Finland for less than three months, no right to reside in Finland is needed. If studies will last more than three months, the EU/EAA student must apply for the right to reside in Finland. This requires proof that funds for the cost of living are available to them at a bank.
Non-EU/EAA citizens must apply for a residence permit for studying at a university in Finland. This requires proof that funds for the cost of living are available to them at a bank.
The cost of living for a student is €500 per month which in turn is €6,000 per year. This means that the student must provide proof that he/she has access to this amount in a bank account under his/her name and that these funds are available for the year. If you have been awarded a scholarship, loan or financial aid, certificates must be submitted with your bank statement or proof of bank funds. Full details of a student's required cost of living can be found on Finnish Immigration Service website.
