Housing for Degree Students

Student Village
Foundation
of Turku

The University of Turku is not responsible for your accommodation

Students who need accommodation should apply for student residence from the Student Village Foundation of Turku (TYS, Turun ylioppilassäätiö). Degree students need to have their certificate of admission before they can apply for accommodation. After receiving admission, you may fax or send your certificate directly to:

Degree students apply for housing directly online. Applications are to be submitted no less than six weeks prior to arrival. Note that the lease always starts on the first weekday of the month, not on a Saturday or Sunday. You should familiarise yourself with the surroundings of Turku and the university because, when available, there are several choices of student residences around the city to choose from.

The housing office will send you instructions and forms to pay a refundable security deposit, which is equal to approximately one month's rent. When you plan on moving out, an inspection will be made to make sure that the flat is in the same condition as it was when you moved in.  Provided that the flat is in good condition, the deposit will be refunded to you after you have moved out.

RENT includes electricity and water and there are no extra fees for a furnished room. The amount of rent varies according to the type of accommodation. Please check for the housing type and rent infomation here.

HOUSEHOLD ITEMS such as utensils, curtains, blankets, etc. will have to be provided by the students themselves. There are a number of flea markets and thrift shops in Turku and the surrounding areas where you can buy inexpensive items for your flat.

KEYS FOR YOUR ROOM are available from the Office of the Student Village Foundation only during their office hours from Monday to Friday. Please check the current opening hours on www.tys.fi. Because of this, you should not arrive during the weekend. If, however, you must arrive either during the weekend or late in the evening after the office has closed, you must be prepared to stay in a hostel or a hotel (More information here).
