Japan

Tokai University

An exchange agreement between the University of Turku and Tokai University was signed in 2005. Exchange without tuition can be divided amongst 2-4 students per year. Studies at Tokai University include Japanese language, culture history, and society. Studies can partly be completed in English, but the exchange requires that the student has had at least one semester's worth of Japanese studies.

Information about studying at Tokai University can be found on their webpages. The University of Turku can award a travel grant of €1000 - €1900. The amount depends on the fares the student finds for travelling.

China

Renmin University of China, Beijing

The University of Turku has a 12 month limit for students of History, International Policy, Sociology, Economics, Law, or Chinese Language and Literature. Study rights are given first and foremost to one student for studying one academic year. The applicant must have completed a Bachelor's degree as well as two years worth of Chinese studies (a separate language certificate or in the trascript of records) before the exchange. There are no tuition fees and housing is fee of charge.

The State of China can grant foreign students a study grant (approximately €84 per month at the Master's level). Furthermore, the University of Turku can award a travel grant of €750 - €1700. The amount depends on the fares the student finds for travelling.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong Baptist University

The University of Turku has a two student limit at the English-language  Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). There are no tuition fees in all subject areas, but some of the courses require some knowledge of Chinese. The University of Turku can award a travel grant of €1000 - €1800. The amount depends on the fares the student finds for travelling.

Statement of Purpose

In a clear, thoughtfully prepared short essay (approximately 500 words), in English, introduce yourself and present your reasons why you would like to study at your host university. Use this essay to talk about your strengths and special interests that may not be evident in other materials you have submitted. Explain why you are a strong candidate for this exchange programme, referring to issues such as educational achievements, intellectual and personal interests, and career goals.
