Your first days in Turku

 

  • Sign your lease at your housing office.
  • The registration of the new exchange students will take place at the International Office, at Turku School of Economics (Rehtorinpellonkatu 3). The normal office hours of the International Office are Mon-Thu 10 am - 1 pm.
  • Pay the Student Union fee at any bank by using a special bank giro with your personal reference number. This bank giro will be given to you at registration by the International Advisors. If you are a formal exchange student then you are eligible to join the Student Union.  Visiting students outside the formal exchange programmes are not eligible to join the Student Union.
  • Apply for the Finnish student card Lyyra, more information how to order the student card: Lyyra. The card will cost 17 euros and the Student Union membership fee for 2012-2013 was 90 € / academic year  or 45 € / semester.
  • Open a bank account (obligatory if you have been granted a scholarship, otherwise optional). Opening a bank account is free of charge in Finland.
  • Remember to attend  the Orientation Course for new international students as well as all personal advising sessions and introductory meetings that are held by the International Office or department at your host university.
  • Pick up your Starting Package at the Package Storage, address: Rehtorinpellonkatu 4 A, 20500 Turku. The fee is 65 € (including a 50 € deposit which will be refunded if all the items are returned clean and in good condition).
  • Collect your user-ID from the Computing Centre, address: Assistentinkatu 5, Educarium, 4th floor, or from one of the Campus Helpdesks. You will need the user account in order to access the computer resources at the university. These include e.g. Wentti, NettiOpsu and E-mail.
