Computer Services
The university has its own Computing Centre (atk-keskus) which provides computing services free of charge for the university's staff and students. You need a personal user account in order to have access to the computer resources at the university. International degree students will automatically receive a user account, account and access information will be sent directly to the student's Finnish home address. Exchange and visiting students will receive personal user accounts after registration.
The Computing Centre and the helpdesk is located at Educarium (Assistentinkatu 5) on the 4th floor.
Once you have received your user account, you will be able to use your own university e-mail account (@utu.fi address). It is recommended that you also use this Finnish e-mail account while staying in Finland.
There are some mailing lists at the university aimed at the international students which will provide you the most updated information about study and free time related matters. Exchange students will be joined to exchange@utu.fi -email list automatically.

Computer labs
The university offers computer labs for its students and staff to use for the purpose of study and study related matters. The computer lab is located at Educarium (Assistentinkatu 5) on the 3rd floor. On the 4th floor are also two computer classrooms (atk-luokka) which may also be used as long as a class is not in session. An electronic key to the Computer Centre lab and the computing classrooms is available at the helpdesk for 15 Euros. When you return the key after your stay in Turku, you will be refunded 10 Euros. They key will also unlock the outside door of Educarium (the gym and Course Book Library side) for 24 hour access to the compuer lab and classrooms.
The PCs and terminals managed by the universities are linked to a local university computer network and to the catalogue databases of the university libraries and also some off-campus sites. By having a user account, students may also create and save Microsoft Office documents as well as use the printers free of charge at the computer lab for university and study purposes.
Other computers and computer rooms are available at different departments and buildings such as Fennicum, Juslenia and Varia. Please check with your department for the exact locations. For more details on where the student computers are situated at the university, contact the Computing Centre or your department.
There are a few Internet cafés in Turku where you can use the Internet before getting your own account.
