Student Card
As a member of the Student Union of the University of Turku, you will receive a Finnish student card. To obtain a student card you must first register with the university by paying the Student Union membership fee.
You can apply for a new "Lyyra" student card by using the electronic form available online. A fee of €17 (2011-2012) will be charged when ordering a new card. The card can be collected at University of Turku Student Union (TYY) Office.
Degree students: please remember to pay the membership fee to a bank using your personal banking reference number before collecting a sticker to your old student card or applying for a new one. Please note that it will take approximately one week before registration can be seen in the university study register after the membership fee has been paid.

It takes approximately five weeks to process the student card. You may ask for a temporary certificate at Student and Admission Services in order to receive student discounts for e.g. public transportation and lunch prices.
Further, old students may retreive the new yearly sticker for their card. After the registration period, the Student Union office, located at Rehtorinpellonkatu 4, will be able to help you.
Benefits of the student card
Exchange and basic degree students
The blue Lyyra student card entitles its holder to student health care at the Finnish Student Health Service, FSHS (Ylioppilaiden terveydenhoitosäätiö, YTHS).
By presenting the student card you will also receive discounts on:
- travel on local and long distance busses, trains and ferries
- lunches at student cafeterias
- restaurants and cafés *
- movie theatre and concert hall tickets *
- swimming pools and sports facilities *
- other shops and facilities *
* You must always confirm at these facilities whether a student discount is available.
Postgraduate students
The benefits available for postgraduate students (green student card) are limited.
- Note especially that postgraduate students are not entitled to the services of FSHS after 1 August 2009.

PLEASE NOTE: The student card is not an official form of identification to be used at e.g. a bank. For official proof of identification, you need to present e.g. your passport or driver's licence.
