Maritime Hubs

The target areas of the project comprised those areas within the European Union for which the maritime industry has had or continues to have a major impact on the area's economy. During the project, 85 persons from 67 organisations in 19 different areas in 10 different countries were interviewed. The project's target countries were Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. For each country, the best practices that have a strong positive impact and that bring about the desired change in managing the situation are reviewed. Best practices can constitute detailed methods with a narrow scope, or an extensive whole. Best practices can sometimes be difficult to identify, as they can be obvious, their scope can be so narrow that they are not considered to be best practices, or they can be so new that there is no previous experience.

The project was implemented in co-operation with Turku University of Applied Sciences. The Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Southwest Finland has granted funding for the project from the European Social Fund and the State.

The results of the project are presented in the final report which can be downloaded here
