FINCA operates in the premises of  Tuorla Observatory - the astronomy unit of the University of Turku. See 'Contact information' for more information and maps on how to reach the FINCA premises.

This web site serves as a platform for FINCA activities, a means of communication for FINCA community and Finnish astronomers working in fields related to ESO, and a publicity channel to promote the work done by FINCA and ESO and advertise their achievements in astronomical research. The Finnish FINCA pages are directed more to the general public, while the English pages are meant primarily for the scientific community.

European Southern Observatory - ESO

ESO is an inter-governmental organisation with 15 member states. It operates three world-class observing sites in Chile: La Silla, Paranal and Chajnantor. The four 8.2 metre VLT telescopes at Paranal make up the largest optical observing unit in the world when used in interferometric mode. The ESO headquarters are located in Garching, Germany.

FINCA is an organisation operated and funded by:

Aalto University (Metsähovi Radio Observatory),
University of Helsinki (Department of Physics, Geophysics and Astronomy),
University of Oulu (Department of Physics, Astronomy),
University of Turku (Tuorla Observatory), and
Ministry of Education and Culture.

In its quality management, the Finnish Centre for Astronomy with ESO follows the University's quality system supplemented with the quality management methods of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
