North American Studies Programme
​All classes and study units in the NAMS program are also open to any student registered with Turun yliopisto for a degree or as a visiting international or exchange student, and these courses can be included for credit in exchange students’ Learning Agreements. Please note, however, that exchange students are not admitted to the University of Turku only or primarily for the North American Studies program.

 

AMERICAN VOICES XXIV
"Exploring the Caleidoscope of North American Culture" 

Each October, the North American Studies program hosts all the visiting American university teachers and graduate students who are in Finland through the Fulbright Program for a two-day seminar called American Voices, covering many different aspects of American society and culture.
 
The 24th American Voices seminar will be held on 7-8 October 2016 at the University of Turku Main Building. The seminar program can be accessed here.

Course registration

See NettiOpsu for details regarding registration policies of individual courses and independent studies.

The NAMS program is available as an open-access Minor for 25 op (Basic studies) or for 25+35 op (Basic + Intermediate studies) to any degree student at Turun yliopisto or Åbo Akademi University.

All classes and study units in the NAMS program are also open to any student registered with Turun yliopisto for a degree or as a visiting international or exchange student, and these courses can be included for credit in exchange students’ Learning Agreements.

NAMS regularly offers an introductory course to the study of North America, which focuses particularly but not exclusively on the United States. The course Crossing the Atlantic: Making of North America (NAMS1111) will next be taught in the Autumn semester 2017.
