Professor Jan Wouters: European Union should discuss the united values

​An audience of almost 200 gathered to listen the lecture and discuss the future of the European Union.  According to Professor Jan Wouters the European Union needs unity in terms of its underlying values.  He called for more discussion about values of the Union, because consensus about the values is very thin currently.

Professor Jan Wouters is Jean Monnet Chair ad personam EU and Global Governance, Full Professor of International Law and International Organizations, and founding Director of the Institute for International Law and of the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies, an interdisciplinary centre of excellence, at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven).

Professor Wouters delivered the Sixth Turku Law School Annual Lecture. The lecture which marks the international opening of the academic year offers an opportunity for a prominent, internationally acclaimed member of the academia or the legal profession to drive forward discussion concerning significant issues of law and politics.

Turku Law School is a cooperative organisation which involves the two universities in Turku. It was founded in 1993 and it is organized by the Faculty of Law and the Turku School of Economics at the University of Turku, and the Departments of Law at Åbo Akademi University.
