About the degree

Starting in the Autumn 2017 all new admitted students will be awarded the Master of International and Comparative Law degree (MICL, kansainvälisen ja vertailevan oikeustieteen maisteri in Finnish).  It is not possible with any study backgrounds to receive the Master of Laws Degree.

This means that also students with a Bachelor of Laws degree (ON, RN) from a Finnish university as well as those who have passed an EEA aptitude test for the Bachelor of Laws level and who have been admitted to the Programme in Autumn 2017 or later, do not have a possibility to be awarded Master of Laws Degree from the Programme. Completion of this degree does not qualify the graduate for positions in the administrative sector of the Ministry of Justice to practice law, which requires a Finnish Master of Laws degree.

Students who have been admitted to the programme before autumn 2017

Students with the Finnish Bachelor of Laws (oikeusnotaari, ON or rättsnotarie, RN) degree and those who have passed an EEA aptitude test for the Bachelor of Laws level will be awarded the Master of Laws (oikeustieteen maisteri, OTM) degree upon request.
