Library card

Getting a library card

You can get a library card free of charge from any of our libraries by providing your identity card and address in Finland.
As a library card, you can also use
  • a University of Turku student card with a barcode granted before 2013 (SYL, Lyyra)
  • a barcoded library and student card of any other Finnish university or university of applied sciences. Please remember to get these cards activated in the library before use.
From autumn of 2013 onwards students beginning their studies need to get a library card of the Turku University Library, their student card cannot be used any more as a library card.

Using the card

Through the Volter online catalogue you can  make reservations and storage requests, renew  loans, change your PIN code and check your personal and contact information. For this you will need your library card number and a PIN code.
The library card is personal. The card holder is responsible for all the material borrowed with the card and agrees to follow the rules and regulations of the Library.
If you lose your library card or your address changes, please inform us as soon as possible.

PIN code

In order to sign in to the Volter database you will need a patron barcode which is the number on the library card and a PIN code which is by default your birth date (ddmmyy).
If you forget your PIN code, please visit any of our library service desks and you will get a new PIN code.  Remember to take your identity card with you!
