Exercise responses on non-skeletal metabolism

Description of Research:

While sedentary lifestyle is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality, physical activity influences all cells and tissues in the body and results in impressive health benefits through your lifespan. However, it is poorly understood, how exercise training challenges metabolism and function in organs and tissues which do not take part in the skeletal muscle contraction and function such as brain, brown adipose tissue and intra-abdominal organs. Furthermore it is unclear how brain and intra-abdominal organs interact and whether training affects the interorgan crosstalk? We study the training-induced tissue-specific processes in non-skeletal tissues leading to the remission of insulin resistance using imaging methods PET, MRI and MRS.
