Advanced imaging in heart disease

​​Description of research

The research focuses on two main targets:

  1. Novel imaging techniques on ischemic heart disease and

  2. Inflammatory process in cardiac diseases.

The specific aims of the first theme are developing, testing and evaluating quantitative PET and CT angiography techniques in assessing coronary atherosclerosis and ischemia and their association with risk factors and genetic determinants.

The specific aims of the second theme are to develop and test novel diagnostic tools for inflammatory cardiac disease involving myocardial tissue, valves and arrhythmias. Inflammation has been recently linked with valvular diseases such as aortic stenosis and arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation.
