Aims and action
The aim of the Finnish Doctoral Education Network in Nursing Science is to educate both nationally and internationally recognized researchers in the field of nursing science as well as to promote the development of multidisciplinary research in the nursing science field internationally and nationally. The aims and action of the Finnish Doctoral Education Network in Nursing Science are articulated in more detail in the Strategy for 2008–2015.

The Finnish Doctoral Education Network in Nursing Science has created a well-functioning national researcher network in nursing science and training including five nursing departments with several professors, adjunct professors and senior researchers, but the development is still going-on. Especially it is needed to focus on young researchers and Doctoral Candidates and their networking. Also more networking is needed to emphasize international research, researcher co-operation as well as international graduate schools and doctoral networks. To support the internationalisation, the Strategy for international collaboration has been developed for years 2008–2015.

The Networks quality assurance system ensures that the objectives of the Finnish Doctoral Networks strategy for 2008–2015 and the Strategy for International Collaboration developed for the years 2008–2015 will be implemented. The quality assurance system covers Programme’s all activities: administration, coordination, education and supervision, research, networking and international activities. The Networks quality assurance system is described in the Handbook of the Finnish Doctoral Education Network in Nursing Science.
