Studying at the Department of Biochemistry
The Department offers a versatile academic degree programme in Biochemistry (in Finnish language). The programme allows students to take a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree, and then to continue to one of the department’s five or other department's two optional Master of Science (M.Sc.) programmes. In addition, the department organises a parallel degree programme in Engineering (in Finnish language) which gives students a possibility to take an engineer degree (M.Sc. in Technology, DI) in Biotechnology or in Food Development. The Department of Biochemistry offers three International Master's Degree Programmes, MDP in Food Development, MDP in Molecular Biotechnology and Diagnostics and MDP in Molecular Systems Biology.
Although the primary teaching language in the degree programmes is Finnish, some of the M.Sc. courses are held in English [Curricula]. These courses in addition to ones of the international Master's Degree Programmes are available for foreign exchange students participating in the studies via the Erasmus or other exchange programmes. Please, notice that some of the courses may have prerequisite and / or pre-registration.
The staff responsible for matters concerning student exchange at the department are University Lecturer Jarmo Käpylä (Erasmus) and Professor Kim Pettersson (Nordplus), and for international master'd degree programmes is Coordinator Minna Lintala. More information for international students is available on the University's site for international studies.
