Admission and entrance examination

There is a strict numerus clausus system in accepting new students in the Bachelor's level studies. The annual intake of students for the degree programme is limited in Geography to 25 and in Geology to 15. The number of applicants usually varies between 250-300. The selection of students is based on the high school certificates and the entrance examination organised by the department.

The language of instruction in the Bachelor's level is mainly Finnish. Therefore it is necessary that the applicant is fluent in Finnish.

Master's degree studies
Finnish university students often complete the Master's degree as the admission to the Bachelor's degree currenlty entitles the direct continuation of studies to the MSc level.
In case an applicant holds a degree equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from a Finnish university (180 ECTS), the applicant may apply for Master' degree studies in English.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences offers a number of Master's Degree Programmes, where the language of instruction is English. Besides the programmes an applicant can apply to other offered fields of studies. Please see the Faculty pages for further information about Master's degree studies.
Exchange students
University of Turku (UTU) accepts exchange students through several different programmes and networks. In most of the programmes, it is required for your home university and UTU to have a bilateral agreement. See the university pages for further information for Exchange Students.
