Flexible Study Right and Studies Abroad
Flexible study right (JOO)
The degree students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences may under certain conditions take courses to be included to the target degree also from other Universities or Universities of Applied Scieces. The University of Turku has concluded a so called JOO-agreement (flexible study right) with all Finnish universities in addition to which the institutions of higher education in Turku have a separate agreement. Making studies with the flexible study right is free of charge for the student but the costs of travelling and living in another town fall for the student.
To apply for studies offered by another universities the student must fill in an application at JOOPAS-service. A flexible study right is also needed for courses coordinated by the TUCS (Turku Centre for Computer Science) and organized at Åbo Akademi University or Turku School of Economics.  For studies in the TSE, choose the button "Enroll to Network courses".
The applications for the flexible study right are first processed by the student adviser of the faculty and are then forwarded to the target university. It is the students responsibility to apply for the study right early enough to be able to get the decision and access to possible network resources of the target university by the time the course starts. As the home university pays for the studies to the target university, the application can be supported only if similar study attainments are not offered by the home university and the studies can be included to the minimum degree requirements (120 ECTS in Master's level). Residence or work in another town are not considered as an adequate ground for the flexible study right.
