Research at the Department
The discipline of philosophy has a longstanding research tradition in bioethics, philosophy of political and social sciences, and the history of philosophy (especially early modern philosophy). During the recent years, there has also been number of externally funded research projects on the topics of argumentation theory, metaphysics, neuroethics, and philosophy of mind. A number of faculty members are engaged in work that crosses into other disciplines including cognitive science and environmental studies. The main sources of all research funding are the Academy of Finland and various private foundations.
