About us
The discipline provides teaching for several faculties of the University of Turku. The main research lines are bioethics, metaphysics and epistemology, history of philosophy, and philosophy of political and social sciences. Expertise in the discipline also extends to argumentation theory, neuroethics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of language.
In the past three QS World University Rankings, the discipline has been ranked to places 101-150 among the philosophy programs worldwide.
The Center of Bioethics (website in Finnish) was established in 1990’s and since the beginning of 2014, philosophy section of the department acts as the national representative in the international network of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, which illustrates its role as the leading unit on bioethics in Finland.
