Opportunities for global minded

For global minded students interested in the management of IT we offer three main alternatives:

  1. GITM and IMMIT multiple degree master's programmes
  2. Rich selection of  IS courses for talent and motivated students
  3. An international doctoral programme

Because of the constant need for business savvy IT professionals in global job markets, our graduates find jobs easily. Our Finnish graduates have been extremely well received in the Finnish job market, with good starting salaries and high match between their education and professional career. For international students, finding a job in Finland is more challenging, but possible. Indeed, many of our international graduates have continued to European job markets and some of them also have returned to their own region.

Why upgrade your bachelor’s degree with an IT management master’s programme?

If you already have a bachelor’s degree in business administration, combining IT management at master level with your prior skills in e.g. finance, marketing, or management provides you with several unique career opportunities. Likewise, for bachelors in software engineering or computer science, a master’s degree in IT management can open up new career opportunities. The focus shifts from designing technologically advanced systems to managing projects and understanding the benefits of the IT for users and processes.
The students will get the best benefit from the master level's programme if they have worked two to three years after graduating on bachelor level. This helps them to capitalize their background and studies by getting a job from Finnish or international companies.

Assistance in Study Planning

Although the general study structure of 120 study credits is decided in advance, students still have to make their own choices. The structure in Master in Science in Economics and Business Administration degree aims at providing a good understanding of IT management. The minor subjects and language and communication studies improve the working competence in international business environments. To graduate as Master of Science student have to study total of 80 credits of advanced level Information Systems courses and this gives you a very strong IT basis.

It is important to think, what your career objectives are and how they are related to your strengths and how to capitalize on your bachelor degree knowledge. The well planned and organized multiple degree option is a good investment for your future. If you  need assistance - or perhaps a second opinion -  feel free to contact Eija Koskivaara. ...Would you like to take some more technical courses?

Since our education is in the area of information systems, we don't address very technical issues in our courses. In particular if you had a technical profile in your bachelor degree and would like to further enhance it, you might want to consider taking some courses from the Department of Information Technology at University of Turku. Their advanced level courses are provided in English. The listing of courses can be found at Turku Centre for Computer Science.

... or advanced courses on business intelligence?

The other university in Turku area is Åbo Akademi University, which has a similar information systems subject as we are. They offer various courses and the master's level courses are taught in English (bachelor courses are taught in Swedish). The information systems subject in Åbo Akademi University has a long tradition in advanced data management, data mining to support operations and management. They also have an interest in eCommerce and mCommerce.

Although we address these issues also in our courses, there are limits on how deep we can go. Issues related to business intelligence are relevant for all specializations. The listing of courses can be found at Turku Centre for Computer Science. TUCS is a joint unit of the computer science and information systems subjects in Åbo Akademi and Turku University.

If you plan to study at ÅA University or any other university in Finland, please discuss it in advance with your study coordinator and make an application for flexible studies in advance by using the online joopas application form.
