Total 10 hrs (1 op) - student passport to gain credit for the course. Web streaming on ACP will be available for the Writing Clinics. No limitation on the number of course participants .
Aims:
The Academic Writing Clinic is designed for doctoral level students from all faculties who need to publish their research internationally. After the course the students should have a better knowledge of how to write academically. The student should be able to recognize and produce academic text and be aware of the internal structure of research articles in their own field. They should have a greater understanding of the mechanics of writing a research paper and be able to write and punctuate accurately in English. This is a series of five, one-off, lectures/workshops that focus on five key elements of academic writing aimed specifically at those who need to publish in international journals. The five topics that will be covered are as follows:
- What is academic writing? - Mike Nelson
- Writing an introduction section - Henno Parks
- Culture in academic writing - Gordon Henderson
- Punctuation - Jane Honka
- Writing a discussion section - Brett Dellinger
