Solving challenges in the food chain requires expertise from different fields. The development of the food chain’s operations also plays a significant role in the implementation of climate goals – for instance, the climate crisis and the loss of biodiversity can be partially tackled by renewing the global food system.

Innovation Festival is a week-long innovation event where students get to solve real-life company challenges in multidisciplinary teams. The topics and themes are related to the challenges of the food chain and connect especially to sustainable development. Challenges are solved in multidisciplinary teams made up of students from different institutions and study fields. The challenge can include product development or process renewal. The Design Sprint -process is used to come up with challenge solutions. Expert mentors assist the teams and help the Teams in moving the process forward.

During the Innovation Festival week teams are solving the challenges using Sprint Design -process. The Design Sprint is intensive and stimulating way of working used to solve complex problems and validating concepts. Once you have learned the process you can use it throughout your studies and later in the working life.

Participation accumulates 2 study credits. The event will take place during the afternoons. We encourage to be present, but partial remote working might also be possible. The week consist of project work, including pitching the idea to the company. There will be some pre-material provided related to the challenge few weeks beforehand.

This event is open to all students in the University of Turku, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Åbo academy and Ammattiopisto Livia. The study credits will be implemented into your free-choice studies. The languages of the Innovation Festival are English and Finnish.

If you have any questions regarding the event, study credits or the challenges, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
