Prof. Dr. Lennart Martens is professor of Systems Biology at Ghent University, group leader of the Computational Omics and Systems Biology group in the VIB-UGent Center for Medical Biotechnology, and visiting scientist in European Molecular Biology Laboratory, European Bioinformatics Institute. During his PhD at Ghent University, he built novel bioinformatics tools for peptide-centric proteomics and global proteomics data dissemination, including the Proteomics Identifications Database (PRIDE) at EMBL-EBI. His research concerns the application of bioinformatics to high-throughput data, and the development of novel data processing algorithms. Dr. Martens has received the 'Prometheus' award of Ghent University for excellence in research and Juan Pablo Albar 'Proteomics Pioneer' Award of the European Proteomics Association in 2015. He is an author on more than 200 research papers and serves as an editor or editorial board member for several journals.
