The Department of Art History of the University of Turku is delighted to be able to invite all interested to a guest lecture by Associate Professor Laura Iamurri from the Roma Tre University on Thursday, 13 February 2020, at 2–4 p.m., on ‘Carla Lonzi: Art Criticism, Feminism, and Writing’.

Between 1969 and 1970 Carla Lonzi (1931–1982) set aside her activity as an art critic to found, along with artist Carla Accardi and journalist Elvira Banotti, one of the most radical movements of Italian feminism: Rivolta Femminile (Female Revolt). The process raises a series of questions on the role of the art experience in the elaboration of Lonzi’s feminism; on the dialogue with artists Carla Accardi and Luciano Fabro; on the power in relationships between artists and critics; on writing; on feminism as the break-in in the history of an “unexpected subject”, able to redefine relationships on the basis of a reciprocal recognition.
