Time
23.3.2021 at 12.00 - 13.30
Marcelo Parreira do Amaral, Professor of International and Comparative Education Research, will give a lecture at the Centre for Research on Lifelong Learning and Education on Tuesday 23 March on: Knowledge Production in the New Geopolitics of Knowledge: Imagining and Transforming higher education. The zoom lecture is open to anyone interested.
The keynote argues that higher education is being integrated in a new geopolitics of knowledge. New geopolitics of knowledge refers to the integration of higher education in the imaginations and calculations of different actors aiming at asserting and/or improving their positions in the global knowledge-based economy. This integration, Marcelo Parreira do Amaral argues, not only prompts a (re-)imagination of the future of HE in terms of serving knowledge-intensive capitalism, but also reshapes and transforms HE missions and infrastructures.
Marcelo Parreira do Amaral is Professor of International and Comparative Education at the University of Münster and Visiting Professor at the Department of Education at the University of Turku. His work has recently concentrated on the emergence and expansion of a Global Education Industry and on how it is transforming conceptualizations of ‘good’ education. Currently, he is preparing a book on the ‘Geopolitical Transformations of Higher Education’ focusing on the internationalisation of education, so far by way of markets and transnational actors and analyzing their consequences for education research, policy and practice.
The introductory words of the lecture will be given by director of Research Center for Lifelong Learning and Education at CELE, Professor Piia Seppänen.
