Academy of Finland Funding and Data Management Plan – University of Turku Process and Services during the Summer
Since the Academy of Finland September call 2020, significant changes have been made to the University of Turku process for approving and accepting of the funding. The research support services at the University of Turku will help the researcher in writing the plan. To ensure the quality of the service, we would like to remind the researchers of the summer schedules.
Academy of Finland has a new process concerning Data management plans (DMP). Submitting the actual DMP will occur after a positive funding decision. The actual DMP shall be submitted in the online services in connection with applicant approval but before the approval of the representative of the site of research. The funds can be paid only after the applicant and the representative of the site of research have accepted the DMP.

The data specialists at the Turku University Library will contact those researchers who receive a positive funding decision, giving guidance on the process of writing the DMP and of its approval.
The responsible Head of Project (i.e. researcher) ensures that after receiving a positive funding decision he/she will write the DMP (draft) as soon as possible, but in three (3) weeks at the latest and send it to the research service support team at openutu@utu.fi for comments. It is recommended to use the DMPTuuli tool to draft the data management plan.
The specialists at the research support service team (specialists from the library, IT-services, legal services, research support) will review the DMP and comment and help the researcher to write the DMP. Commenting and writing a DMP takes approximately 1 to 2 weeks depending on the case.
Because of the summer holiday season, it is particularly important especially for those researchers who receive a positive funding decision at the end of May or at the beginning of June, take into account that the commenting service, in its full extent, is available only in June (until June 30). Because of this we recommend these researchers to send the first draft of the data management plan to the service address openutu@utu.fi as soon as possible after the news about positive research funding.
In addition to our DMP review and commenting service, we also arrange voluntary DMP workshops, where the researchers can ask questions concerning the project’s data management issues. Specialists from the research support services will attend the workshops.
