22.06.2020

The Academy of International Business UK and Ireland chapter has chosen the doctoral dissertation of Riikka Harikkala-Laihinen, belonging to the international business faculty at Turku School of Economics, as the winner of the 2020 Adam Smith Best Doctoral Dissertation Award. Due to the coronavirus pandemic the dissertation, titled ‘The power of positivity: How employee emotions and interaction can benefit cross-border acquisitions’, was presented to the panel via distance in a Zoom-session on June 15th.

The competition had three finalists selected based on an extended abstract and supervisor’s statement. In awarding the winner, the judges also considered the Zoom-presentation and the dissertation itself. The international panel of judges characterized the competition as very tough. Harikkala-Laihinen was complemented on her excellent presentation, methodological rigor and the contribution her dissertation made to the field of international business.
