The University of Turku starts educating experts in futures studies.

In the near future, it will be possible to study futures studies as a major subject at Turku School of Economics in Futures Studies Master’s Degree Programme and a Doctoral Programme in Futures Studies.

‒ Establishing a subject in futures studies is a significant - and long-awaited - step for Finland’s Futures Research Centre. At the same time, it is internationally unique in its field, says Juha Kaskinen, Director of Finland’s Futures Research Centre.

The University of Turku starts educating experts in futures studies as Finland’s Futures Research Centre (FFRC) ‒ formerly an independent unit of the University ‒ affiliated to Turku School of Economics (TSE) on the 1st of August this year. As a subject, FFRC begins to grant Master’s and Doctor’s degrees.

Affiliating Strengthens Multidisciplinary Know-how at TSE

Director Juha Kaskinen says that affiliating to Turku School of Economics benefits especially developing corporate foresight, research and teaching in sustainability and responsibility, and embedding general foresight thinking.

‒ Futures studies are very practical. We aim at solid societal influencing. Our interests are thus in line with the ones of the School of Economics.

The Director of TSE, Markus Granlund, says that the integration is significant especially from the point of view of the School’s new strategy, which is in the making.

‒ The Centre brings multidisciplinary knowhow to the School. This contributes to profiling in internationally unique ways, says Granlund.
