26.10.2016

The Turku Collegium for Science and Medicine at the University of Turku is recruiting new, international doctors who are already in collaboration with the University. The Collegium offers the new researchers a position in the international science community.

There are two multidisciplinary research collegia at the University of Turku: Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS) and Turku Collegium for Science and Medicine (TCSM). The purpose of the collegia is to advance top research and develop young researchers' careers.

The research fields of the Turku Collegium for Science and Medicine are mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, geology, geography, medicine, biomedicine and dentistry as well as research that is related to these subjects.

At the moment, the TCSM employs nine collegium researchers who have already completed their post doc phase. For the first time, the Collegium is recruiting also postdoctoral researchers. The goal is to recruit five post doc researchers and the Collegium will employ them for three years.

The Chair of the TCSM board, Academician of Science Sirpa Jalkanen, says that this recruitment is an important new opening to the Collegium.

– Now we can also support researchers who are at the postdoctoral phase. I believe that we should continue to invest in this instrument in order to support professional researcher careers and to improve the quality of research even further. We hope to recruit active and gifted researchers to the University of Turku. We offer them an international and multidisciplinary environment that creates a great basis for high-quality research. In the applicants, we value, of course, the already achieved attainments as well as mobility. Usually, it is not beneficial for a researcher to work only in one institution, says Jalkanen.

The Collegium hopes that the applicants already collaborate with a research group or a senior researcher at the University of Turku. They will also consider how the applicant's research topic is linked to the thematic research collaborations of the University of Turku, which are: biofuture; digital futures; cultural memory and societal change; children, young people and learning; drug development and diagnostics; and sea and maritime studies.

The call for applications is open until 30 November 2016.
