Astronomy between the covers - Knut Lundmark Collection
The Discipline of Astronomy at the University of Turku is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The library participates in the anniversary celebrations with an exhibition of Knut Lundmark's collection of astronomical literature. The collection includes not only scientific publications but also prints, photographs, astrology and fiction.
Knut Lundmark (1889–1958) was one of Sweden's foremost astronomers and a close friend of Yrjö Väisälä, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Turku. As a result of the friendship between the two colleagues, Lundmark bequeathed his book collection to the Department of Astronomy at the University of Turku.
From 7 June 2024, Feeniks and Teutori libraries will take you on a journey through the history of astronomical literature. The works presented in the exhibition range from ancient myths about constellations to Einstein's Theory of Relativity, from the movements of celestial bodies documented in the Middle Ages to early photographs of galaxies.
Welcome to the exhibition!
