04.12.2019

The University of Turku organises a Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees of all the faculties on 28–29 May 2020. The event celebrates young doctors and honorary doctors appointed by the faculties. The registration will open in January and the last day of registration is 28 February 2020.

All the graduated doctors of the University of Turku who have not yet been conferred can participate in the Ceremonial Conferment.

The Ceremonial Conferment 2020 is a two-day event. The celebration consists of several different events. The Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees begins on Thursday, 28 May, with the rehearsal for the Conferment Ceremony at the Concert Hall and continues with the Sword Sharpening Ceremony, which is held at the Main Building in the evening. On Friday, 29 May, the Conferment Ceremony starts at noon in the Concert Hall, from where the conferred doctors walk in an academic procession to the Cathedral for a service. In the evening, the Ceremonial Conferment Banquet is held at Turku Castle and the Ball at Turku VPK House.

Those who are interested in the celebration can join our mailing list and get a reminder, when the registration to the different events open. Signing up to the mailing list does not oblige you to participate in the Ceremonial Conferment.

The Ceremonial Conferment Committee appointed by the Rector is responsible for organising the event. Professor Anne Kovalainen is the Master of Ceremonies and Professor Janne Salminen is the Head Marshal.

In addition, the honorary doctors appointed by the faculties are also conferred in Ceremony and they will be announced soon.
