Children were once again welcomed to participate in adults’ work day on the Children’s Day at Work on 22 November 2024.
The Children’s Day at Work offers children the opportunity to see where their parent or other important adult works and what they do for a living. We once again welcomed children to participate in adults’ work day on the Children’s Day at Work on 22 November 2024. The University organised joint programme and encouraged the units to allow children to participate, for example, in meetings, and to spend time together while getting to know each other.
“Children’s Day at Work has become an expected event in our work community, which has been really great to see. We want to invest in family-friendly professional life, and the event highlights the balance between work and family life and children’s rights to be seen and heard in a very concrete way,” says HR Director Sanna-Mari Tammilaakso.
Specialist in Sustainable Development Jutta Mäkinen and Aino (8 years old) attended the Children’s Day at Work in good spirits.
“This is a great opportunity to show the kids where their mom spends half of her day. We participated in the event also last year and the experience was nice, so we decided to do it again. The programme is well organised, and my child had the opportunity to meet my colleagues from our work community. Through this event, I have also met new colleagues at the University," says Jutta Mäkinen.
Children’s Day at Work is a campaign launched by the Ombudsman for Children and its partners to highlight the right of children to be involved, seen, and heard in the workplace. The aim of the day is to promote family-friendly professional life and the inclusion of children in society.
