InFLAMES travel grant for researchers’ participation to external study courses, training, and scientific events (Application period 5.9.2024-19.9.2024)
The InFLAMES Flagship offers travel grants to cover direct costs, such as the registration fees and travelling costs of scientific educational courses, training, and events. The grant can be awarded to advance research in the fields of immunology and immunology related diagnostics and drug development, particularly in topics matching those of InFLAMES UTU/Turku Immunology Centre research groups.
The aim is to advance the self-improvement and scientific education of the researchers. The supported course or event must be directly beneficial to the applicant’s immunological research.
The maximum amount of granted support is based on the location of the course or event as follows:
Outside Europe: maximum of 1500 €
Within Europe: maximum of 1000 €
Nordic Countries: maximum of 750 €
The application period for the InFLAMES travel support is open four times every year. The application periods for the remaining part of the calendar year 2024 are:
September 5th to 19th
December 2nd to 16th

The evaluation and decision criteria for the travel grant applications:
- The primary target for the support is participation in courses.
- Researchers with scheduled oral presentations are prioritized as far as support for conference participation goes, followed by researchers with poster presentations. All awardees of support for conference participation are expected to give some form of presentation or otherwise present their research in a notable fashion at the conference for which they are applying support.
- The application can be submitted before getting a notification of a presentation having been accepted, but the grantee should inform InFLAMES Flagship immediately after receiving the said notice, doing so by email (inflames@utu.fi).
- Only one participant from any given research group can be granted support for any individual event.
- Every applicant can only receive support once per calendar year, regardless of the target of the support provided. In other words, an individual person can at most receive support to participate in a single training course, scientific conference or laboratory visit within a year (through a separate call), based on the calendar year in which the supported event takes place. This quota is personal and resets on January 1st of every calendar year.
- InFLAMES travel grant is open to all research career stages, including positions as an undergraduate student, a doctoral researcher, a postdoctoral researcher, a senior scientist and a group leader.
- The Directors of the InFLAMES Flagship make the funding decisions within three weeks of the call of applications closing.
