InFLAMES travel grant for researcher’s participation to external study courses, training, and scientific events
The InFLAMES Flagship offers travel grants to cover direct costs, such as the registration and travelling fees of scientific educational courses, training, and events. The grant can be granted to advance research in the fields of immunology and immunology related diagnostics and drug development, particularly in topics matching those of InFLAMES UTU/Turku Immunology Centre research groups.
The aim is to advance the self-improvement and scientific education of the researchers. The supported course or event must be directly beneficial to the applicant’s immunological research.
The maximum amount of granted support is based on the location of the course or event as follows:
Outside Europe: maximum of 1500 €
Within Europe: maximum of 1000 €
Nordic countries: maximum of 750 €
The application period for the InFLAMES travel support is open four times every year. The application periods for the year 2024 are:
February 1-12
April 18-29
September 4-18
December 2-16

The evaluation and decision criteria for the travel grant applications:
- The primary target for the support is course participation.
- Researchers with scheduled oral presentation are prioritized as conference support targets, followed by researchers with poster presentation. All receivers of the support for conference participation are expected to give some form of presentation or otherwise notably represent their research at the conference they are applying for.
- The application can be submitted before getting the notice of an accepted presentation, but the grantee should inform InFLAMES Flagship immediately after receiving said notice by email (inflames@utu.fi).
- Only one participant from any given research group can be granted the support for a single event.
- Every applicant can only receive support once per calendar year, regardless of the support target. In other words, a single person can at most receive support to participate in a single training course, scientific conference or laboratory visit in a year (through a separate call), based on the year the supported event happens in. This quota is personal and resets on January 1st of every year.
- InFLAMES travel grant is open to all research career stages, including positions undergraduate student, doctoral researcher, postdoctoral researcher, senior scientist and group leader.
- The Directors of the InFLAMES Flagship make funding decisions within three weeks of the closing of the call.
