The PBI Prize is a Turku-based scientific award, which annually recognizes outstanding research in management and organization studies. Dr Eini Haaja from the Pan-European Institute and Dr Riikka Harikkala-Laihinen from International Business receive the 2025 price for their article “Emotions in sustainability advancement: Multiactor experiences of the ongoing green transition” published in the Journal of Cleaner Production in December 2024.

Dr Eini Haaja and Dr Riikka Harikkala-Laihinen receiving the PBI Prize for 2025 from Thomas Franck, chairman of the board, PBI Foundation, and Kim Wikström, CEO of the Foundation and Professor at Åbo Akademi University

The PBI prize is presented by the PBI Foundation in collaboration with Åbo Akademi University. The prize recognizes excellent scientific research within management and organization studies within the areas of maritime energy or infrastructure. In 2025, the PBI Foundation board selected sustainability in the aforementioned fields as a specific focus area. At least one of the authors of eligible papers must be affiliated with Åbo Akademi University, the University of Turku, or other Turku-based research institutes.

The jury praised the winning publication for its exceptional contribution in advancing knowledge on sustainability in the maritime industry through scientific rigor, theoretical innovation, practical relevance and real societal impact.

The PBI Prize celebrates publications that not only deepens academic understanding but also addresses urgent societal and industrial challenges. This year’s winner embodies both qualities, and we are delighted to honor their achievement,” comments Kim Wikström, CEO of the PBI Foundation and professor of Industrial Management at Åbo Akademi University.
